Health and Dental Plans

The KSU Health and Dental Plans

The KSU Health and Dental Plans, developed by Green Shield Canada, is negotiated in conjunction with the Canadian Federation of Students' and managed by the King's Students' Union Health Plan Administrator. It offers all full-time King's students health, travel and dental insurance, automatically opted into when a student registers at King's.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much do the Health and Dental plans cost?

The Health Plan represents a fee of $119.76, while the Dental Plan comes at a cost of $68.76 per year (September 1st to August 31st). These fees were a part of a fully-paid tuition, and are decreases from the previous year's plan costs.

We also offer a family health/dental plan for those who are interested in adding dependents to their plan. The cost is $236.04 for the health plan and $144.36 for the dental plan per year (September 1st to August 31st).

2. What's covered under the Health and Dental plans?

All information about both plans can be found in a booklet that is available by download in PDF format in the "Coverage" section.

3. How do I opt out?

Students who have pre-existing coverage from another plan that is above and beyond their provincial health/dental insurance can opt out.

All opting out processes are handled by a third-party form that can be accessed by going to the lefthand sidebar and clicking the "Opt Out" section and following the instructions. There are detailed step-by-step instructions on the page below. The opt-out period for the 2010-11 year is between September 1st and September 24th; no exceptions.

4. How do I make a claim?

By going onto greenshield.com, you may register with your Greenshield ID# (UKC+6 digits of your B00 number+00), and print out customizable claim forms. You may then send them to Greenshield directly, or place them in the Health Plan Administrator's mailbox in the KSU Offices.

5. Can King's athletes opt out?

King's athletes are just like any King's student, just with more stylized bodies. They can opt out of the health and dental plans as much as anyone, even if that was a misconception in the past.
