Governance at the King’s Student Union

The King’s Student Union is governed by two important documents: 1) the KSU Bylaws and 2) the KSU Operations Policy . They are legally binding documents that lay out the Union’s structure and operations. Both documents are available here online and in print at the KSU office

Here are some facts about these governing documents:

  • The Bylaws can only be amended by the general membership of the King’s Students’ Union at a General Meeting, demonstrating one of the many ways in which our union is shaped collectively!

  • The Operations Policy can be amended by Council, but also requires one week’s notice and a 3/4 majority vote.

King’s Student Union Council

Council

KSU Council meetings occur bi-weekly and attending these meetings is a great way to stay involved and in the know about what’s happening on campus and with the King’s Student Union.

A typical council meeting usually includes the following:

  • voting on giving societies money for certain events and projects

  • appointing students to Union and University committees

  • voting on donating to local organizations

  • discussing what your elected representatives have been up to and talking about the issues affecting students both on and off campus.

  • and more!

Only elected reps get to vote, but all students have a voice and are encouraged to join the discussion! Students are welcome to join virtually and breakfast is provided to all those who come in person!

Council Records

Couldn’t make it to Council this weekend?

Not to worry! We regularly post all Council documents to this page to ensure transparency and accessibility for students. Council documents include the following: 

  1. Reports (see what your union reps and staff have been up to!)

  2. Meeting agendas (which include discussions and votes)

  3. Minutes (records of everything that happened during the meetings)

When we post the documents for the upcoming Council, we’ll include minutes from the previous Council; keep in mind they are unofficial until approved at the next Council. For example: the December 1, 2023 minutes were not official until approved at the next Council on December 13, 2023. Any questions pertaining to the minutes can be directed to the KSU Communications Vice-President (cvp@ksu.ca).
